In this penultimate chapter, the empirical findings are reinterpreted to provide more comprehensive insights into the dynamics of knowledge production in global social policy. Here, the discussion abstracts from the individual cases described in the previous chapters and instead adopts an overarching perspective that is no longer necessarily tied to the historical evolution of particular developments, individual epistemic practices, or specific knowledge products. The first subchapter describes what goes into the construction of epistemic infrastructures and examines how functions of epistemic infrastructures in global social security policy have evolved over time. The second subchapter identifies how IOs’ numerical instruments have moved from providing knowledge of governing to governing through knowledge themselves and examines normative dimensions of numerical instruments. The third subchapter addresses what mechanisms have shaped epistemic infrastructures in global social security policy.

Discussion: The Making of Global Social Policy Through Numbers

摘要
