This chapter introduces cooperative economics. Cooperative economics includes both principles and practices. It encompasses both an ethos/orientation/attitude and a number of institutional organizations, forms, and models. Cooperative economics can also exist within a variety of political and cultural environments, which partly explains its success across so many countries and over two centuries of radical social and economic change.
