This chapter is devoted to the biphoton: two photons entangled in one or more degrees of freedom. It describes the biphoton’s optical properties and introduces applications that benefit from its entanglement and nonlocality. A biphoton in two bimodes encodes two qubits and can be used to implement measurement-controlled quantum gates based on post-selection.
