Benchmarking metrics, if well investigated worldwide, may aid in rationally planning conventional and mechanized tunneling projects. This chapter uses benchmarking as a reference point to know how different tunneling projects have succeeded. For this purpose, data on conventional and mechanized tunneling projects from Turkey are analyzed and compared. The tunnel studies are from roadway, railway, utility, stormwater, irrigation, water conveyance, hydropower, and metro tunnel projects with information on geology, excavation method, mean daily advance rates, tunneling crew, and machine utilization time. Drilling and blasting pattern in Ovit roadway tunnel is given also as an example to one of most successfully opened tunnel. Later in Turkey. The authors investigated also several international projects for benchmarking purposes. These projects are: Gotthard Base Tunnel; sixteen UK tunnels from the transport and utilities sectors; tunnel Emisor Oriente, Mexico City; wastewater and water supply tunnels from the Boston area; USA, the Olmos Trans-Andean irrigation tunnel from Peru; the Niagara Tunnel Project from Canada; a survey of two authors from USA on 46 metro sized EPB-TBMs is also added to the analysis for benchmarking.

摘要
