This chapter delves more into investigating and highlighting the implications of having affordable and accessible energy on low-income households. The availability of affordable and accessible energy has the potential to significantly impact the lives of low-income households. In this chapter, we will explore the potential implications of having affordable and accessible energy on low-income households, including economic, health, environmental, and social impacts. These various perspectives look at the challenges regarding the use of renewable energy and its implication on Jamaica and other Caribbean countries. Gender-sensitive policies are keen to ensure that energy access and resources address the unique needs of low-income women. The chapter also speaks to the importance of ENERGIA which is an international network on gender and energy that highlighted the success of women from renewable energy projects from community-owned energy systems and the impact that these successes have had in reducing poverty within their community while empowering women.
