Student Movements After the Dictatorship (1990–2006)
摘要
This chapter examines student movements from 1990 to 2006, focusing on their evolution after the return to democracy. While the 1990s saw limited student activism as society focused on material concerns, the early 2000s marked a revival of political engagement. The 2001 Mochilazo protests introduced new horizontal organizational structures through the ACES (Secondary Students Assembly), challenging traditional hierarchical models. The 2006 Pingüino Movement represented a watershed moment, with secondary students demanding structural changes to the educational system. This movement successfully brought education reform to the national agenda, though its achievements fell short of its original demands. These events laid the groundwork for the broader student movements that would emerge in 2011.
