Lithium-Ion Batteries
摘要
This chapter explores the growth and technological advancements in the recycling of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), a key component in the transition to sustainable energy solutions. Widely used in electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems (ESSs), LIBs are valued for their high energy density, efficiency, and long lifecycle. The end-of-life management of these batteries is strategic, driven by the rising demand for raw materials and the need to mitigate environmental impacts. Recycling not only reduces dependency on mining but also addresses the potential future shortfall of critical resources like lithium, nickel, and manganese. The chapter updates the status of repurposing and recycling LIBs in Europe, also highlighting the evolving European Union regulations. By integrating advanced recycling methods and legislative frameworks, LIBs recycling plays a vital role in enabling a sustainable energy transition.
