The primary aim of this article is to present a literature review and the authors’ perspectives on the advancement of reverse logistics and assess the importance of logistics centres in reverse logistics chains. As the role of reverse logistics steadily increases, its significance for sustainable development also grows rapidly. Meanwhile, logistics centres, as main elements of regional and international logistics systems, are uniquely predisposed to be utilized in reverse logistics chains while retaining their advantages from classical forward logistics. In the authors’ opinion, their potential role should be further studied. A literature review on logistics centres and reverse logistics was conducted to prepare this article. The research concludes with an advanced literature review on the unique advantages of logistics centres for the advancement of reverse logistics, incorporating the authors’ opinions and an analysis of future prospects. Logistics centres are uniquely predisposed to be utilized in reverse logistics chains, serving as main or significant elements of regional and international logistic systems. They can be a reliable stabilizing force in the material flow of resources in reverse logistics chains.
