The hippocampus, likened to a sea horse, is located at the base of the cornu temporale of the brain’s lateral ventricles. The hippocampal formation, which includes the hippocampus (cornu ammonis), consists of the dentate gyrus and its white matter, the alveus, and the fimbria hippocampi. The hippocampus is a frequently examined brain structure, has an important effect on learning, memory, emotion, and behavior. In the literature, morphometric measurements of the hippocampus or its subsections have been evaluated together with age and gender differences regarding health and disease. Different imaging methods have been used in the analysis of the hippocampus. The T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging method is mostly used to observe changes in the white and gray matter. In studies, hippocampal morphometry has been calculated using different imaging methods. Knowing the morphometry of the hippocampus is important for many neuropsychiatric patients.
