Development of the Hippocampus and Hippocampal Neurogenesis
摘要
The mature central nervous system is very malleable, as evidenced by adult neurogenesis, a developmental process that produces actually coordinated neurons inside the hippocampus, an area of the mammalian brain throughout life. Here, we provide a thorough overview of hippocampal neurogenesis, beginning with a close examination of the hippocampus’s structure and growth during embryonic development. We address technical advancements in the study of neurogenesis and how they may have uses in medicine and therapy, drawing on recent findings. We have learned from this investigation of hippocampal neurogenesis that the hippocampal region continues to grow and develop throughout life, and it also plays an important function in both cognitive and affective processes from the start of development. We believe that future neuroscience research will benefit from the amazing ability of the hippocampus to create new neurons and adapt.
