This chapter features a case study of a community-based participatory research (CBPR) project conducted from 2016 to 2017. Looking back at the case study and examining current funding priorities as outlined by Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) illustrates the evolution of this field and provides opportunities for students to garner insights on the future of this work. Furthermore, the chapter provides an overview of definitions of community-based participatory research, health equity, determinants of health, and required scholarship for interdisciplinary team members. Following the CBPR case study are discussion questions and a framework that identifies sociocultural levels and domains contributing to systemic inequities and offers a guide for reimagining community engagement. The aim of this chapter is to facilitate classroom discussions to help students center health equity into their educational and career goals, identify areas for scholarly inquiry, and offer guidance on prioritizing stakeholder involvement and health equity in research conducted within and for the community.
