Scholars and researchers play an integral role in the advancement of treatment for behavioral health issues and addiction. While a great deal of work has been done to address patient behavioral health needs, gaps remain between the current landscape of treatment in medical settings and the science needed to improve outcomes over time. We will explore the role of scholars in improving treatment, including new innovations and efficacy over the course of patient care. Furthermore, we will demonstrate a novel multi-year, in house intervention to help build scholarly activity in a Family Medicine department on a hospital campus. We will also discuss how to train the next wave of practitioner-scholars in the addiction and behavioral health treatment space. Translational and Implementation Sciences must grow if we are to meet the ever increasing demand for patients with addiction and behavioral health needs.
