The fantastical world of painter Jacek Yerka brings spatial dimensions into tension. His SF architecture challenges codes of perspective, multiplies viewpoints, and deconstructs the traditional vertical representation of the layers of earth. These elements render a conception of the ground that reveals its depths. Yerka’s paintings dissolve dichotomies between sky and earth, surface and depth, inside and outside, natural and artificial, animate and inert. They present more-than-human perspectives, capturing the soil’s temporal texture: Lifelines invade landscapes, infrastructures become creatures, and soil strata create friction. The artist offers geo-narratives where the ground and the underground are no longer passive receptacles for capitalist and neocolonial projects. Instead, their stories of geological resistance encourage us to disrupt the watertight surfaces of modernity and weave relationships.
