Performance Evaluation of Islamic Banks in Oman: An Analysis Based on Islamic Banking Assets

The country’s economic development heavily relies on the banking sector’s progress, with banks serving as growth drivers. Islamic banking, one of the fastest-growing financial sectors, follows Shariah principles, focusing on profit-sharing and prohibiting interest. Bank Nizwa and Alizz Islamic Bank are fully operational Islamic banks in Oman. This study analyzes their performance based on Islamic assets, classifying assets into traditional and Islamic for comparison. Using secondary data from bank annual reports, the study covers 2014–2023 for Bank Nizwa and 2015–2023 for Alizz Islamic Bank. Tools like CAGR and trend analysis show that both banks demonstrate positive, progressive growth.
