Exploring Consumers Perceptions and Preferences for Takaful Products in Oman: Insights for Market Growth and Innovation

The purpose of the study to explore Consumer Perceptions and Preferences for Takaful Products in Oman. Questionnaires were distributed to the 300 respondents across Muscat using convenient sampling technique. Descriptive statistics are used in data analysis. The research revealed that a significant proportion of respondents were familiar with both Takaful and conventional insurance. However, many of the respondents perceived no significant differences between Takaful and insurance products. Consequently, they express no preferences between Takaful and conventional insurance. However, when the respondents are given a choice, they identified several factors influencing their decisions to adopt Takaful. These factors include affordability of Takaful products, excellent services quality, Shariah compliant, simplicity and ease of the claims process and the availability of Takaful branches. To increase public awareness and market penetration, Takaful sector should adopt aggressive marketing strategies. Leveraging social media and other innovative marketing strategies can effectively promote Takaful products to general masses. Additionally, the sector should emphasize the distinctiveness of Takaful products compared to conventional insurance, particularly highlighting their Shariah compliance. Tailoring these products to meet specific needs of customers is vital. The sector can concentrate on areas such as health, life and other socio-economic products to improve on social welfare of the society.
