The last chapter of the book issues an urgent call to action to combat VAWG, counter D.A.R.V.O., and embrace Institutional Courage, underscoring the systemic nature of VAWG embedded in societal norms and language. By portraying VAWG as a “shadow pandemic” and dissecting the manipulative strategy of D.A.R.V.O., this analysis has emphasised the gravity of the issue and the need for both individual and collective action. Despite the challenges outlined, there is hope. Deconstructing D.A.R.V.O. tactics and demonstrating how language can counteract them offers tools to empower stakeholders and survivors to resist manipulation, foster accountability, and support survivors as agents of change. Practical steps, such as creating safe spaces, challenging harmful narratives, and supporting survivors, are key steps forward. The real-life cases analysed within the book have underscored the importance of giving survivors and victims’ loved ones a platform to reclaim their voices and agency, transcending victimhood—a consistent theme throughout this work. By adopting survivor-centred approaches and linguistic empowerment, it is possible to dismantle the effects of D.A.R.V.O., nurture empathy and justice, and pave the way towards a safer and more equitable society.
