This chapter addresses the pervasive issue of Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG), a global phenomenon affecting millions. It provides a comprehensive definition of VAWG, emphasising its widespread prevalence and the profound harm it inflicts. The chapter introduces Critical Discourse Analysis (CDS) as the main tool used throughout the work, illustrating how language shapes societal perceptions and both perpetuates and challenges gender-based violence (GBV). Within this context, it examines D.A.R.V.O. (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender), a manipulative tactic used by perpetrators to evade accountability, silence survivors, and shift blame onto survivors and victims. Additionally, the chapter outlines the research methods and theoretical frameworks applied in the volume. Ultimately, it articulates the work’s overarching purpose: to provide a multifaceted examination of VAWG, empower readers to confront harmful discourse, and advocate for policies that promote gender equality and justice.
