In the present chapter, I introduce Boesch’s dynamic action theory, with a focus on the structure and organization of actions over different phases. I argue that Boesch encourages researchers and practitioners not only to study actions within their interrelationships, referred to as an action system, but also to examine how actions are structured across distinct phases. To this end, I present an extended model of Boesch’s action phases, which are interconnected and consist of the action preparation, action process, and action termination phases. This phase-based model is further applied to the field of psychotherapy, offering an interview guide designed to help both researchers and psychotherapists assist their clients in navigating and creating a personally meaningful future. This guide can also be used to regulate interfering actions and action systems during therapeutic processes.
