Afghanistan has endured over four decades of protracted conflict, profoundly impacting its social fabric. Despite the challenges, Afghan women have emerged as critical pillars of resilience and support, leveraging traditional protection structures and formal networks to aid their communities. This chapter explores the multifaceted roles of Afghan women as informal social workers, survivors of conflict, and enduring figures amidst national and personal trauma. It examines their historical and contemporary contributions, responses to ongoing crises, and the evolving challenges they face, particularly following the international withdrawal and Taliban’s return to power in August 2021.
