Thailand faced a crisis of municipal solid waste during its past. Even though local and national governmental agencies explored the issue of disposing of municipal solid waste, there has never been a comparative, potential analysis of nationwide disposal sites to contribute to the municipal solid waste management. Therefore, the objective of this article is to explore the municipal solid waste disposal situation in Thailand, in terms of municipal solid waste management, the municipal solid waste volume, and the analysis of disposal site potentiality. The data were analyzed by using a scalogram. According to the research results, to have fully equipped disposal sites with technical properties, this can be achieved by either increasing the volume of properly disposed and recycled municipal solid waste, or by decreasing improperly disposed of bulk waste, simultaneously. However, despite the decline in municipal solid waste volume, as well as the better situation of municipal solid waste management in various regions, Thailand still has many inappropriate municipal solid waste disposal sites, which reflects that it is time for Thailand to change to a waste management that emphasizes separating and reusing waste rather than disposing of it to landfill.
