A Brooklyn native, Paul OscherOscher, Paul was a rare gem in the AustinAustin music scenemusic scene. He moved from L.A. to TexasTexas in 2013, and lived in Manchaca, South of Austin, until his passing in 2021 after complications of COVID-19. He was 74. Oscher was an all-around bluesblues musician: his main instrument was the harmonicaharmonica, but he played guitarguitar and pianopiano, and he sang the blues too. In the late 1960s, Oscher made history in the blues tradition by becoming the first white musician ever to join a major blackblack blues band: the legendary Muddy WatersMuddy Waters Blues Band. His novel participation marked a turning point in his process of musical learning and cultural blackening.
