Digitalization is prevalent in fields such as healthcare, transportation, manufacturing, and construction. The construction industry faces issues like waste, low productivity, delays, and unsafe conditions. In Sri Lanka, the construction sector struggles with productivity, labor shortages, quality, and time management. This research examines the potential for digitalization to address these issues. A literature review identified four key facilitator areas for digitalization: pre-construction, construction, post-construction, and policy/regulation. Preliminary interviews refined these facilitators, and a survey assessed readiness for digital adoption, followed by expert interviews to propose solutions. Findings show limited use of Industry 4.0 technologies, despite the presence of 3D modeling and management software. There is a specific need for digital tools in Life Cycle Cost Assessment simulation models, robotics, automation, and electronic document management systems. Due to the complexity and resource demands, adapting foreign models to local needs is recommended. Additionally, implementing building codes and environmental regulations can enhance digitalization in the industry.
