This chapter introduces us to Maude Abbott the late nineteenth century early twentieth century quintessential collector of hearts who organized congenital heart defects into a rudimentary classification system. She launched the first systematic scholarly study of congenital heart disease that deeply influenced later cardiologists, surgeons and pathologists.
