Early intensive behavioral intervention (EIBI) is an evidence-based practice that teaches children with autism critical skills related to communication, imitation, academics, and leisure. It is widely recognized that a focus on EIBI is paramount for improving the outcomes of autistic individuals. This chapter provides an overview of EIBI, its evidence, and core components such as teaching verbal behavior, social, and play skills to individuals with autism. Details related to emergent responding and considerations for treatment selection (e.g., discrete-trial versus natural-environment teaching) are also discussed.
