The field of behavioral gerontology has become increasingly relevant in the long-term care for individuals with autism and other developmental or intellectual disabilities. Maintenance and durability challenges become even more significant in geriatric clients as neurocognitive factors begin to affect skill retention. This chapter provides an overview of the variables behavior analysts must consider when working with the aging autistic population. The authors discuss ways of promoting physical health and well-being, bolstering daily living and communication skills, and incorporating choice-making to promote autonomy in autistic adults.
