In today’s marketing world, there is an integration of digital and physical marketing strategies across all industries, including the tourism industry. In the tourism industry, the parallel use of these strategies frames them as complementary components that together can enhance tourist engagement and destination branding. Termed here as ‘parallel universes’, these parallel strategies used in tourism marketing are analysed to demonstrate how their convergence can create a cohesive and dynamic marketing approach. Through a review of current literature and various case studies, this chapter explores key digital strategies (such as SEO, social media, and digital platforms) and key traditional physical strategies (such as brochures and tourist information centres) used in tourism. The analysis extends to the interaction between these strategies, highlighting the synergistic effects on tourist experiences and the overall marketing effectiveness. Challenges such as budget allocation and channel conflict are discussed alongside opportunities that include enhanced data analytics and customer satisfaction. Future directions suggest increasing influence from emergent technologies, such as AR, VR and AI, along with the need for practices of tourism marketing to be sustainable. The chapter concludes, further highlighting a unified marketing strategy that ought to leverage the digital and physical domains towards creating sustainable growth and enhancing competitive advantage in the tourism industry.

摘要
