This chapter introduces the specifics of the post-war Greek economic development until the early 2020s. The first section attempts a periodization of the Greek economic development during the main period of development banking in Greece and afterward in order to provide a meaningful interpretation of the various stages of economic growth intermitted with bouts of stagnation that the economy passed through these years. Then, the rest of the chapter provides a brief review of each subperiod with the aid of diagrams and comments on the evolution of significant macroeconomic variables. The idea is for the reader to get a grasp of the great transformation of the Greek economy from a Less Developed Country to a developed one in which the operation of Greek development banks took place.
