Already in the Neolithic period, ceramic vessels were being crafted for the storage of resins. In Mesopotamia, temples were built in the 3rd to 1st millennia BC, in whose walls small channels led to caves from which the soothing scent of gardenia flowed into the house of God. Spices and herbs were extremely precious, just good enough for the gods, who were to be appeased with them.
