This article uses data gathered from public interviews conducted in 2022 with stakeholders (including an administrator, supervisors, clinicians, and students) at The George Washington University Mental Health Services by Stepped Care Solutions to explore how synergy was used in the process of implementing the SC2.0 model in 2015. I explore the implementation process, the main challenges, and organizational and system outcomes, with an emphasis on the role synergistic approaches to working played at each stage. I then provide an analysis of how the implementation harnessed synergy to create system-wide change. I found that the initial success of the implementation provided evidence for the effectiveness of synergy when used in combination with the SC2.0 model, as evidenced by stakeholder responses and a reduction in wait times, but that later decisions on the part of upper management to dismantle the SC2.0 implementation pointed to vulnerabilities in our approach.
