As Western academic and healthcare institutions have come to acknowledge the persistent and ongoing harm caused by European colonialism around the world, arguments for the necessity of decolonizing mental healthcare have become common in recent years. But this has not always been accompanied by a deep engagement with traditional Indigenous approaches to healing. Using my own experience in clinical practice, I then explore how Indigenous healing philosophies can be applied in the context of modern clinical practice in the United States.
