Synergy and the Conundrums of Stepped Care 2.0
摘要
In our previous book in this series, Stepped Care 2.0: The Power of Conundrums, we explored the nine most common problems, or “conundrums,” we faced when implementing the Stepped Care 2.0 model for mental healthcare (SC2.0). This article uses the concept of synergy (Katz, R. (2017). Indigenous healing psychology: Honoring the wisdom of the first peoples. Simon and Schuster.) to address these conundrums. Many of the problems faced when implementing SC2.0 arise from tensions between the less hierarchical and more community-based approach to care embodied by the model, and the more rigid operating structures of healthcare institutions and bureaucracies. Synergy, an approach to collaboration and cooperation rooted in Indigenous philosophical traditions, is essential to the effective working of SC2.0, but it is also countercultural in the context of the modern mental health clinic. We argue that without a synergistic approach, SC2.0 cannot function as designed.
