Methodology for Assessing the Effect of Snow and Vegetation Cover on the Thermal Regime of the Soil Using the Example of the MSU Weather Station

The paper considers the methodology for organizing thermometric wells and determining the influence of snow and vegetation cover on the thermal regime of soils using the example of the Moscow State University weather station. For this purposes thermal wells were drilled and thermal sensors were placed and temperature logger measurements were obtained and for both the well with vegetation cover and the second well with no vegetation or snow cover. Some materials related to conducting classes with students on monitoring the thermal state of soils at the site of the meteorological observatory of MSU are considered. Information is given about climate change and thermal state of soils observed in the global monitoring network being created in Russia, as well as the experience of conducting classes with students on this subject at the site of the meteorological observatory of MSU with data collection and subsequent processing of observation results and also with comparison with the results obtained through mathematical modeling.
