The Law, the Planet and the Future
摘要
In this chapter, Bob Rae, Canada’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations in New York, reflects on his ongoing journey through environmental and labour advocacy, highlighting the interconnectedness of sustainable development and social justice. Drawing from his early experiences with labour organizations, Rae underscores the critical need for integrating environmental stewardship with workers’ rights. He recounts his political career, emphasizing the creation of the Environmental Bill of Rights and his efforts to promote sustainable economic models. Rae also discusses the global challenges of climate change and biodiversity, advocating for stronger international laws and enforcement mechanisms. Rae concludes with a global call to action that honours both the planet and its people, inspired by indigenous principles of sustainability and intergenerational responsibility.
