This chapter explores the details of the SDGs—classification, targets, indicators, monitoring/evaluation, specific parameters of each goal, and general efforts to achieve the SDGs. The goals are essential because they provide a comprehensive blueprint for addressing the most pressing challenges facing humanity and the planet. These 17 interconnected goals tackle issues such as poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean energy, climate change, and social justice, recognising that progress in one area impacts others. By setting measurable targets and fostering global collaboration, the SDGs create a unified framework that guides governments, businesses, and communities in working towards a sustainable future. The complexity of the SDGs themselves, with their interconnected and sometimes competing priorities, adds another layer of difficulty, requiring systems-thinking approaches that are not always prioritised. These challenges highlight the need to accelerate progress towards the SDGs through stronger political will, global collaboration and partnerships, extensive use of technology, targeted research and development, innovative solutions, and effective monitoring and evaluation as the anchor. With the advent of the AI revolution, all these interventions can be enabled and driven by AI technology. Indeed, AI systems can be deployed to achieve the 17 UN SDGs by 2030. However, the daunting question is: How can this be accomplished?
