Overview and Preparation
摘要
This chapter provides an overview of the In the Act training curriculum and is intended to help prepare training facilitators to not only deliver program content, but to also improve their interpersonal skills in managing a wide range of attitudes and behaviors they may encounter during training day. Specifically, this chapter offers a research-supported rationale for the training as a conjunctive to comprehensive interventions delivered by mental health or rehabilitation staff; reports on perceptions of program acceptability from several pilot implementations; describes the structure and outline of the training; and provides recommendations for evaluating the impacts of training delivery on staff, incarcerated persons, and the institution. Facilitators can also gain more background knowledge about core concepts discussed in the training (e.g., cognitive-behavioral theory), as well as tips for dealing with trainee resistance, maintaining buy-in, managing expectations, and ensuring their own well-being as an educator.
