The ascent of Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs) as a key climate change solution is intricately linked to a convergence of global factors and significant world events. In the twenty-first century, where energy is a linchpin for the functioning of economies and nations, the concept of self-sustainability has evolved into a paramount objective. This evolution has witnessed diverse concepts and advancements in building design and energy efficiency, prompting continual refinement of NZEB definitions and conceptual frameworks. Discerning the pivotal role of energy on a global scale, there is a compelling need for a standardized international framework for NZEBs, given the ongoing evolution of definitions over decades. Noteworthy is the importance of definitions tailored to local conditions, striking a crucial balance between an internationally standardized framework and locally adaptable definitions. Recognizing the compelling need for standardization, this paper aims to chronicle the chronological development of NZEB definitions and frameworks. The primary objectives include comprehensive understanding and revealing the diverse parameters inherent to NZEB by reviewing various definitions and studies. The goal is to contribute to the development of a standardized framework that effectively guides NZEB implementation. This involves striking a balance between internationally standardized frameworks and locally adaptable definitions, acknowledging the relevance of tailoring definitions to local conditions and emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive understanding of NZEB parameters.

摘要
