Emergency vehicle detection is essential for ensuring timely response and saving lives. The integration of Deep Learning (DL), particularly through the YOLO (You Only Look Once) model, has significantly enhanced this process by providing new methods for accurate and efficient object detection. This scoping review offers an overview of studies that focus on the application of YOLO for emergency vehicle detection specifically in the year 2023. By analyzing 16 publications from this timeframe, the review addresses key research questions, including the monthly distribution of papers, the most widely adopted YOLO versions, and emerging research trends. This review highlights how YOLO-based technologies have improved the accuracy and reliability of emergency vehicle detection within the past year, identifies important research gaps, and provides insights for future advancements in this critical field.
