Cryosurgery is the deliberate destruction of tissue by freezing in a controlled manner. It has been used in the treatment of a wide variety of oral lesions, including benign tumors, viral infections, and selected premalignant and malignant tumors. It is a very useful technique, especially for patients for whom other medical procedures are contraindicated. Advantages in the oral cavity include the limited time of treatment, low risk of infection, and minimal wound care. This chapter describes the use of cryosurgery in benign oral lesions.
