Within the Middle Eastern countries, Iran exhibits the highest faunal diversity, with 342 known species within 85 genera more diverse than the others, followed by Turkey (252 species), Israel-Palestine (33 species), Egypt, Syria (9 species each), Cyprus (5 species), Lebanon (4 species), Iraq, and Jordan (one species each).
