This chapter is an exploration of Brenda Lin’s Wealth Ribbon (2004), a self-narrative untangling some of the paradoxes of Taiwanese American becoming and being. Intimate personal and family experiences, as well as instances of individual and collective gendered memory are reflected upon as part of a transition from “storytelling” to “story sharing.” The chapter argues that the memoir creates a space where both personal and public dimensions intersect and provides illumination on ways and possibilities of growing into oneself as a woman.
