The aim of the chapter is to inform future platform design processes by discussing experiences from a design-based research project. The main focus of this project was the design, implementation, and evaluation of a digital learning and research environment for large-scale collaboration and research-based learning in higher education. This chapter focuses on human–technology relations in designing and implementing EdTech platforms for higher education by discussing five major challenges, which are briefly described, exemplified, and then discussed in more detail. To become more specific on the range of options available for the development of platforms, it outlines pertinent elements of a design space for an open standard for collaborative learning and knowledge-work in education, drawing on questions which evolved from implementing the features into the platform.

摘要
