Aim: The Bundelkhand Region of U.P. has always been into picture due to its adverse agricultural climatic conditions and has especially been considered as a drought prone region. The climate conditions here support the production of millets but still over the years there is a decline in the production of this climate-smart agricultural crop. Data: This study deals with time series data ranging from 2001 to 2022 based on the area, production and productivity of sorghum in Bundelkhand Region of U.P. Objectives: The study aims to assess the trend on sorghum production in Bundelkhand Region of U.P. Methodology: To assess the trend of sorghum production in the region Compound Annual Growth Rate was worked on. Results: The analysis of sorghum production in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh from 2001 to 2022 reveals several key trends. The total production of sorghum has seen a slight decline, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of −0.96%. Banda showed the highest total contribution and a positive CAGR of 2.28%. The area under sorghum cultivation has also decreased significantly, with a CAGR of −3.42%. But slight stabilizations are seen in some years post-2013. Despite the reduction in cultivation area, the productivity of sorghum has increased, achieving a CAGR of 2.53%. Conclusion: Sorghum production in Bundelkhand Region has increased in productivity despite a decline in cultivation area, making it crucial for food security and can be a major contributor for reducing food inflation in India, especially in light of the International Year of Millets 2023. Promoting sorghum can enhance sustainable agriculture and economic stability in the region.
