Osteopathic Philosophy Applied to Rhinitis
摘要
Osteopathic medicine is a philosophy that guides physicians to better treat their patients with a focus on the entire body, mind, and spirit. Andrew Taylor Still, MD, DO, developed this philosophy in the nineteenth century with the intention not only to understand his patient’s illnesses and complaints, butto understand how he could help the body return itself to health. Oral and nasal medications have been the center of treatment for rhinitis, a commonly atopic process of nasal symptoms such as rhinorrhea, congestion, and sneezing. While these medications have provided symptomatic relief over the years, osteopathic philosophy will help the practitioner utilize more skill sets in the therapeutic options applied to the patient. The authors Meghan Callahan, Remie Saab, Eshika Kohli, and Robert Hostoffer have been equally contributed to the research, development, and writing of this chapter.
