This concluding chapter summarizes the findings of this book and offers further explanations. The Black vote for Donald Trump can be explained by their Christian identity outranking their Black identity, therefore, making a vote for the Republican Party, even under a candidate as polarizing as Donald Trump a vote which best reflects their priorities. This voter is following the socialised rules of the identity group they identify with the most. This process might be explained by both identity activation and issue saliency. If one feels threatened based on their membership within a given identity group, they will be more likely to engage in behaviour which will protect that identity group.
