This chapter looks at the evolving nature of the Republican Party in the Trump era. In the pre-Trump era, the Republican Party’s focus was on small government and fiscal conservatism. With Trump’s arrival, the Republican Party has shifted their focus to matters of immigration and ethnic cleavages. In doing so, their approach to politics has also changed where they no longer adhere to the social conventions which used to govern politics and increasingly engage in populist rhetoric rooted in an us versus them mentality. Groups and practices which were once condemned by the Republican Party are now embraced in this new coalition.
