Donald Trump’s candidacy and subsequent election victory came as a shock to most of the world. His brash approach to politics was unconventional in American politics but his brand of right-wing populism clearly resonated with his voters. A surprising feature of Trump’s candidacy was his success among Black voters in comparison to his centre-right predecessors when right-wing populist candidacies typically struggle among ethnic minorities. In order to analyse his ability to gain a sizeable minority of the Black electorate, this book sets out to identify the factors which contribute to Black support for Donald Trump.
