Population data provide the backbone to growing research on the labor market outcomes of LGBTQ+ people in Canada. The availability of population data mirrors broad legal and social change surrounding sexuality towards the recognition of LGBTQ+ people and identities. In this chapter, we discuss legal changes and LGBTQ+ rights in Canada, how these rights facilitated data collection on same-sex couples and sexual and gender minorities, and then provide an overview of some main findings of labor market research drawn from these data.

摘要

Population data provide the backbone to growing research on the labor market outcomes of LGBTQ+ people in Canada. The availability of population data mirrors broad legal and social change surrounding sexuality towards the recognition of LGBTQ+ people and identities. In this chapter, we discuss legal changes and LGBTQ+ rights in Canada, how these rights facilitated data collection on same-sex couples and sexual and gender minorities, and then provide an overview of some main findings of labor market research drawn from these data.
