For nearly 25 years we have been talking about the “Natural Wine Movement” as a group of artisan-winemakers who have revolutionized the way we think about wine production. Following visionary winegrowers, active especially in France in the 1980s and 1990s, it was at the beginning of the 2000s that a collective movement truly began, linked first and foremost to the first salons dedicated to natural wines (such as La dive bouteille and Vin Passion in France or Vini di Vignaioli and Vini Veri in Italy) and the birth of the first producers’ associations. Since then, this movement has grown much and has certainly changed, but it still contains a strongly political charge: this article will focus on this often-overlooked aspect. With its criticism of standardized taste, its agroecological vision and its reflection on the betrayal of the Designations of Origin, this movement of natural wine is necessarily political.
