Georgia’s ancient winemaking traditions have gained international recognition through the modern natural wine movement. In the early 2000s, pioneering Georgian natural winemakers reintroduced traditional methods such as kvevri vinification, drawing global attention to Georgia’s unique wines, particularly orange wines. Inspired by an early definition of natural wine that emerged in Georgia in the nineteenth century, these winemakers have shown that this movement was long overdue. Georgian wine has demonstrated its resilience, with winemakers not only preserving their ancestral techniques, but also innovating while respecting their heritage.
