The chapter focuses on the role of female winegrowers within the Italian natural wine field from an anthropological perspective. After a historical overview on the gendered division of labor characterizing traditional families of small-scale winegrowers, it reviews women’s current positioning within the broader wine sector. By taking into account the lived experiences of a group of female natural wine producers based in Piedmont and Sicily, it is argued that these women represent radically new social actors in a field of production which is still largely male-dominated. Despite some gender-related differences between those producers belonging to traditional families of winegrowers and the newcomers, these women have managed to carve out their own space within a world which has traditionally excluded them from leading positions and entrepreneurial roles.
